    Dr. Alan Barkun

    Alan Barkun is Director of Digestive Endoscopy, and Chief Quality Officer of the Division of Gastroenterology at McGill University and McGill University Health Centre, Montréal, Canada. He is the first and current recipient of the DG Kinnear Chair in Gastroenterology at McGill University, holding a medical degree and an MSc in epidemiology and biostatistics from McGill University. Recipient of many national and international awards, Dr. Barkun has published over 400 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts, and has given over 400 international presentations on emerging digestive endoscopic technologies, with an emphasis on methodological, clinical and cost-effectiveness trials of treatments for upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), bilio-pancreatic diseases and colorectal cancer screening.

    Dr. Felicita Andreotti

    Felicita Andreotti is Professor of Cardiology at the Catholic University Hospital of Rome. She received her MD and a post-doctoral degree in Italy; then a PhD in the Netherlands, studying the mechanisms of coronary thrombosis and fibrinolysis. In 1990-93 she was Principal Investigator of a British Heart Foundation project and Lecturer at the University of London, where she directed a clinical research laboratory. In 2008 she coordinated an Italian Ministry of Research multicentre study on new treatment strategies for acute myocardial infarction.

    Dr Andreotti’s studies on atherothrombosis range from genetics and translational medicine to clinical investigations and meta-analyses. She is author of over 185 articles published in peer-reviewed international journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, and has contributed to several European Society of Cardiology (ESC) clinical practice guidelines.

    Dr Andreotti is a cofounder of the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis. She sits on international PhD committees, on Data safety monitoring boards of international trials and on the Editorial board of the European Heart Journal. In 2008–2010 she chaired the ESC Working Group on Thrombosis. In 2008–2012 she collaborated with projects run by the European Society of Atherosclerosis. She is a regular Reviewer for various health institutions and major medical journals, including Circulation and the Lancet. Her profession involves clinics, research, teaching and travel.

    Prof. M Khalilullah

    Dr. M. Khalilullah in his 55 years of medical career has made immense contribution to the country. When he was still a post doctoral fellow in the Department of Cardiology in the AIIMS, he had developed India’s first indigenous cardiac pacemaker and equipment for cardiac monitoring; for which he received 2 National Awards from the Honorable President of India. He was Director-Professor & Head of Cardiology and Director of G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi which finally became one of the most advanced, accepted and acclaimed the world over center for patient care, teaching and research in the field of cardiology. His association with the G.B. Pant Hospital for a period of 25 years resulted in several break throughs. He initiated the practice of electrophysiology in March 1975. This along with catheter Ablation which was again established in June 1984 for first time in the country, became widely accepted and practiced as super speciality all over the country. Advanced teaching programs resulted in more than 150 DM’s and Non DM resident Cardiologists, who are leading several important institutions all over the country.

    In 1985, Dr. Khalilullah introduced new concept of Intervention Cardiology. This technique was based on balloon angioplasty, with use of laser probes, implantation of umbrella and devices; this resulted in non surgical closure of intracardiac and extra cardiac defects ushering in a new era in the field of cardiology. This reduced the hospital stay of the patients from more than 10 days to just the day care or the at most 2-3 days.

    He was Chairman of the Board of Research Studies in the faculty of medicine of Delhi University. He had been advisor to several States Governments of our country and has been a very popular examiner for post doctorate courses in cardiology all over the country and DNB Cardiology Examination.

    He received several awards throughout his career including the following;

    1. Padma Shri, 1984.
    2. Padma Bhushan, 1990.
    3. Dr. B.C. Roy National Award, 1984.
    4. Two National Awards from President of India for the development of first indigenous Cardiac Pacemaker and monitoring system.
    5. Doctor of Science (Medicine) Honoris Causa of Nagpur University Nagpur, 1988.
    6. Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award, 1994.
    7. Justic Bashir Ahmed Trust National Award, 1995.
    8. Life Time Achievement Awards in Cardiology
    9. Visiting Professor to various universities in U.S.A.
    10. Out Standing Contribution Award from G.B. Pant Hospital on 30th April.2014
    11. DMA Life Time Ratan Award on 29th June 2014.

    He was appointed as a Honorary Professor at The Cromwell Hospital, London and has been the Visiting Professor to Texas Heart Institute, Houston, Texas; The Emory University Medical Centre, Atlanta, Georgia; University for Hospital of Pennsylvania; Philadelphia; Duke University Medical Centre, North Carolina and Karnart Institute of Cardiology, Indianapolis. He has helped in establishing cardiology and cardiac surgery in many countries all over the world like South Yemen, Shilanka, Bangladesh. At the age of 79 years Dr. M. Khalilullah is still busy, rendering his services to all segment of society in his hospital, The Heart Centre, 2 Ring Road, Lajpat Nagar IV, New Delhi – 110024.

    Author of more than 400 research papers, he has edited the first ever Text Book of Cardiology in India by Indian authors. This Text book has been by widely acclaimed both in India and abroad.

    Vinod K. Rustgi is a renowned hepatologist who serves as the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation and the Clinical Director of Hepatology at UPMC.

    Dr. Rustgi has published key findings on liver diseases, specifically hepatitis A, B, and C. He has focused on the effects of liver complications during pregnancy. He conducted extensive research and clinical trials of potential treatments for patients with hepatitis sponsored by leading pharmaceutical companies and research centers.

    As the co-author of five books, 82 articles, and over 130 abstracts, Dr. Rustgi’s work has been published in several leading journals in his field, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Transplantation. He is a longstanding member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases where he also served on the Governing Board.

    Dr. Rustgi has been honored numerous times throughout his distinguished career. He was the recipient of the National Research Service Award in Gastroenterology and has served as a reviewer for the Medical Research Council of Canada. He is a Fellow of numerous professional societies including the Royal College of Physicians (London).

    Dr. Rustgi earned his M.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Johns Hopkins University. He completed his medical internship at Baylor College of Medicine, his medical residency at Georgetown University Hospital, and gastroenterology fellowships at the Stanford University Medical Center and the Liver Diseases Section of the National Institute of Health. Prior to joining UPMC, Dr. Rustgi served as a clinical professor of medicine and surgery at the Georgetown University School of Medicine and a clinical professor of medicine at the Medical College of Virginia while practicing at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
